I. AM. SCARED!!!

Could this day get any crazier? We just got a call from the agency and the expectant mom who is due April 2nd likes us!!!!!! She wants to have a conference call with us before she makes her final decision. Oh my goodness, what do I do??? I think it'll be tomorrow evening. I haven't ever done this before, and I don't think I've ever been so nervous. HELP!!! Any of you been through this? Have any words of advice?
I'm excited/nervous/anxious/giddy/hesitant/blah, blah, blah. I think I need a drink. :)

Just be yourself.... She already likes you so relax. Make sure you sound positive, excited, and honored that she wanted to talk to you. You will do fine!!!

As you KNOW we have totally been through this...in person once and once last Thurs. on the phone....

Try to relax, and if you can't, remember that SHE'S nervous, too, so she won't even notice.

Some of the questions that our agency asks are about our families, community, neighborhood, jobs, and a little about ourselves. And then it's a free-for-all.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

We had a conference call with our birthmom before she picked us. I was so nervous and I was just honest with her and let her know that I was nervous. Then I was just totally myself. She was nervous too so it went both ways. I had to speak first and just told her all about myself and my family, etc.

The questions she asked us were... do we plan on sending the child to college, will we be able to love her baby as much as a biological child, and do we plan on telling the child it is adopted. Our answer was yes and she wanted us to say no. Even though we disagreed there, it all still worked out and there was a match!

I am so excited for you!!!! And go ahead and have that drink if you feel like it...I'll have one with you!

Ask about her. How's she feeling? Ask about her family. Ask about her job, if she has one. Any future plans. Kill her with kindness & friendliness! LAUGH! Make jokes! It will help her be at ease too.

I always ended with "do you have any questions for us?" & answer them if she does.

GOOD LUCK!!!! My stars, I'm going to be checking your blog 500 times! LOL! ;)

Last year when we were selected by a birth mother we talked about what to say beforehand. I even took little notes in case I got to nervous and flubbed all my words. We weren't alone though, the social worker was with us (3 way call). Good luck!

I know you are working with more than one agency and a lawyer. Could you share more information with me? tracyruth@yahoo.com

OMG.... we had the very same thing! We had been picked but the BM had never even spoken with us. It was totally weird on the phone.
All I can suggest is to ask questions about HER and not so much about the baby. Be interested in HER and how SHE's doing and what interests she has. It will help her feel comfy.

Ack! Good luck!!!!
